City Recycling Drop-Off Centers

Some items not collected via city curbside recycling can be dropped off at these city recycling drop-off centers. But please note, only the same types of plastics accepted curbside – bottles, jars, and jugs; no caps – are accepted at these locations. (See What Plastics Can Go into Pittsburgh Curbside Recycling?)

Weekday Facilities

These recycling drop-off centers do not accept paint, electronics, building materials, or Freon appliances (paint, electronics, and freon items are accepted at PRC collections; freon and some electronics are also accepted at Construction Junction- see below). They are open limited hours Monday through Friday (except holidays). Some centers may offer Saturday hours. Call the center directly for details on their hours. If you have a question about a specific item, you may need to call the city’s recycling department directly at 412.255.2631.

The West End site has a green dedicated glass dumpster that will take glass to a dedicated processor in a dedicated truck. This increases its value and reduces contamination in the rest of the recycling stream. Consider dropping off your glass items at this green dumpster. (also available at Construction Junction site and Strip District site)

Special Drop-off with PRC

Starting in 2022, Pennsylvania Resources Council has partnered with the City of Pittsburgh to provide weekly collections of hard to recycle e-waste items. These collections are Tuesdays 2 – 6 pm & Thursdays 3 – 7ppm at the City’s Strip District Railroad St. drop-off center. Get details on what they accept and make an appointment for drop-off at https://prc.org/ewastepgh/.

PRC is also providing once-a-month hazardous chemical collection at the same location. More details on that at https://prc.org/hhwpgh/.

24H Facility Open to Small Businesses

The Strip District Drop-off Center on Railroad St. is open 24 hours/day. Open to small businesses, bars, and restaurants. (Individuals can also drop off at these locations) This facility does not accept yard debris, scrap metal, tires, paint, electronic, building materials, or Freon appliances. It also has a green dedicated glass dumpster that will take glass to a dedicated processor in a dedicated truck. Additional Drop-off Locations

The Construction Junction site has a green dedicated glass dumpster that will take glass to a dedicated processor in a dedicated truck. This increases its value and reduces contamination in the rest of the recycling stream. Consider dropping off your glass items at this green dumpster. (also available at Strip District Railroad St. site.) Nearly all of the Construction Junction dumpsters are operated and picked up by the City of Pittsburgh, so please note that they take only the same types of plastics that are accepted in curbside recycling. CJ does also have a scrap metal dumpster that they operate that is down by their loading docks but you should check with them before using. CJ also provides some additional recycling on site – more information on their recycling options here.
